Declutter Your Life to a Better Sense of Wellness

I know this isn’t technically a “fitness” post, but I would like to stress the importance of decluttering your life to make room for what matters. It’s safe to say that everyone has an excuse for avoiding exercise, but if you master the willpower it takes to get into a daily routine, squeezing in fitness and removing outside distractions can enhance your enjoyment of physical activity. Here are some ideas:

  1. Even if you love to shop, unsubscribe to promotional emails. You don’t need a coupon EVERYDAY. You end up spending time wrestling through 50 emails a day, maybe spending money you don’t need to and ignoring or completely missing that email from your trainer. (I found someone guilty of that this morning!!)
  2. In a on demand tv world, everyone has their favorite shows. By cutting back on tv that doesn’t at all help you toward your goals, you will have extra time to mingle with your family, read a book and prepare for the day ahead instead of rushing around in the morning.
  3. Buy some glassware (and the healthy foods that go in them). If you can prepare fresh whole foods once a week, you will come home from work and prep dinner with more ease because some of the nitty gritty work has already been done.
  4. Make your bed everyday. I know this sounds like something you’d say to your teenager, but starting the day off with freshly pressed sheets and a neat bed will allow you to come home from your day and feel like you have a clean house, a house worthy of to put on display.
  5. Avoid being late. Leave early. Get up earlier. Whatever you do, rushing around ruins more days than being on time or early. It doesn’t just damper your day, but it tests the patience of others.
